Daniel Shapiro - Director

Daniel graduated in 2002 with a BCom Degree: Financial Management from Unisa. Following a yachting trip around the world in 2003, Daniel returned to South Africa where he co-founded Shapiro Shaik Defries & Associates. In 2015, Daniel went onto to co-found iContact, SA Business School and Alefbet Holdings. With strong entrepreneurial skills and a passion and drive for business, Daniel brings an astute approach to the group and its growth in South Africa and international markets.

Yaron Shapiro - Director

Yaron graduated in 2003 with a BCom Degree: Industrial Psychology from RAU and is co-founder of Shapiro Shaik Defries & Associates, iContact, SA Business School and Alefbet Holdings. Yaron’s entrepreneurial flair is complimented by strong leadership skills, a passion for people and their personal and professional development – a key asset in a business that employs over 1200 youth, mostly from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Doron Defries - Investor

Doron is a chartered accountant and member of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). He has an APT diploma in auditing from RAU and a B.Compt (Honours) from Unisa. Doron has held various senior executive positions in financial management, including with JSE Member Firm, Consilium Capital.

As a board member of BCE Home and Catering Supplies and a non-executive director of S&J Land Limited, Doron provided independent advice on company strategy, resources and performance. An astute investor, Doron jointly established Alefbet Holdings with Daniel Shapiro and Yaron Shapiro. He continues to fulfil a leadership role in the group, focusing on strategy, Finance and Operations.

David Shimkins – Non-Executive Director

David has over 20 years experience in financial modelling, capital raising, transaction negotiation and implementation, restructurings and facilitations between capital providers and users. David’s trailblazing track record includes co-head of structured finance at Brait Merchant Bank, regional head of Grindrod Bank as well as partner at Capital Investment Advisory and Calculus Capital, to which he still consults.

In 2018, David founded Nitinol Capital, a principal investor in and facilitator of alternative debt and equity transactions. David has an Honours degree in Accounting Science from the University of South Africa, a Higher Diploma in Tax Law from the University of Johannesburg and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
